Bonfire night, and the whole firework season, can cause immense stress for your dog.
In response to stressors, such as loud noise, the body responds by activating the HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis, resulting in the secretion of the stress hormones (including cortisol and adrenaline). Stress increases heart rate, mobilises glucose, directs blood to the muscles and stimulates the nerves, preparing your dog for ‘fight or flight’.
Your dog is not able to respond to fireworks effectively, so the stress persists.
Stress-Less Calming Aid for Dogs
Nupafeed Stress-Less is a unique, natural calming supplement designed to work with your dog’s body to help manage stressful and anxious behaviour. It contains patented MAH®, a magnesium compound originally developed for human medicine.
Magnesium is an essential nutrient that helps to maintain muscle and nerve function. It resides in receptors which are found on nerves throughout the body and along each step of the HPA pathway. In this way, magnesium provides fundamental support against stress.
Stress-Less is ideal for any stress-related behaviour and is great for dogs on Bonfire night. Unlike most calming supplements for dogs, it does not contain valerian, or any drowsy ingredients, and is easy to feed for long or short-term use.
Feeding Stress-Less for Dogs Afraid of Fireworks
You will need to start a few days ahead so that you can build up gradually.
The basic feeding rate is 1ml or 1 tablet per 10Kg bodyweight. You can feed up to a double amount to calm dogs on fireworks night.
The best time to feed Stress-Less is two hours before the fireworks are likely to start.
You can maintain the double amount for as long as you need to. Alternatively drop to the standard rate for quiet nights, returning to the double amount when calming is needed.
More Tips for Anxious Dogs on Bonfire Night
- Take your dog for a good walk earlier in the day
- Check doors and gates are closed
- Ensure your dog is accurately microchipped
- Provide a safe hideaway, ideally where they can still see you
- Close windows and curtains to muffle noise and hide flashes
- Put the TV on to provide familiar noise and disguise the fireworks
- Try not to fuss; you will only reinforce the idea that they should be scared
“This product is FANTASTIC!!!! My dog, who is 6 years old, gets half a ml morning and night on chicken paste and it has changed her life !!!! I have tried various products which have only ‘touched’ her problem – now my dog has her life back !! Two years ago she got a fright while she was on the beach when a large kite crashed down beside her, since that day she became frightened of all noises….car doors slamming, overhead planes, any ‘droning’ sounds, gun shots, she would constantly shake all night, every night, in the house with worry & she would run away when she saw kites flying, windsurfers, wind turbines etc. It was heart breaking to see her like this, even my vet couldn’t help apart from putting her on a sedative which, I considered, a definite no-no. I can’t tell you how happy I feel – I’ve now got my dog back and she is having a wonderful ‘stress free’ life !!!!!!!
I will keep her on it for the time being……possibly for ever…..
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!”
